Hillcrest Restaurants, Bars, Nightclubs, and specialty shops; Oh my!

So many things to do in Hillcrest

The First thing you notice as you’re driving down University Avenue at the corner of Normal Street is the towering rainbow Pride Flag which sets the stage for how wonderfully diverse and accepting this little community is. As you drive west on University Ave., you will pass many small boutiques, antique shops, wine bars, and specialty shops. As you continue west on your tour of Hillcrest, you’ll come upon the famous neon Hillcrest sign, and to the right of it is another renowned sign – the Golden Dragon, where many of the Hollywood elite from the 50’s through the 90’s use to eat. It used to be my Great Grandfathers favorite place. Unfortunately, the Golden Dragon is no longer there, but it was replaced by the Asian Bistro, an excellent restaurant specializing in Thai cuisine as you continue down University Ave. You’ll see Mo’s, another Hillcrest staple, great food, stiff drinks, and everyone is always very friendly. Hillcrest has so many great places that it will be tough to mention them all in this write-up, but stay tuned because I may just do a review section soon.

If you’re looking to get your style on, you must walk 5th avenue from The Rail to the corner of University Ave. There are a few vintage clothing shops that you just must check out.
